What is a Sugary Drink?

You might be asking yourself just what is a sugary drink. That's a good question, and one that confuses a lot of people.

A sugary drink is a beverage that is sweetened with naturally-derived caloric sweeteners such as sucrose (table sugar) or high fructose corn syrup. USDA dietary guidelines support a reduction of sugary drink consumption, stating that sugary drinks "provide excess calories and few essential nutrients to the diet and should only be consumed when nutrient needs have been met and without exceeding daily calorie limits."
